3 NEW ACTS FOR FRACTURED STAGE
Added to the already massive Fractured stage lineup are:
Mission Ignition
A seven piece with a huge underground sound and an overwhelming earthy feel Mission Ignition are a heavy-weight band with a very unique flavour and loads of experience in rocking a crowd. Live credits include a killer opening set for and mammoth after-party jam with Fat Freddy’s Drop, dual live/soundsystem sets at Exodus, a ridiculous body-painted Lily World set at the Big Day Out, waking up the assembled crowd on sundown at the Gathering Festival, and turning Splendour in the Grass on it’s head. Mission Ignition are currently in the studio recording a bunch of tracks of which they’ll release a single as soon as Summer’s set in.
Raz Bin Sam & The Lion I Band
Spreading the Israelite truth internationally through original roots and culture music, Raz Bin Sam is the front man of the 5 piece tough and hard hitting, original ragga/reggae band “Lion I”. The band uses a combination of roots, ragga and middle eastern rhythms and are quickly being recognised as guaranteed crowd pullers. They have billed at numerous festivals including Exodus and Splendour in the Grass 06 and played with international artists such as ragga/dancehall star Tippa Irie. Look out for the release of the band’s latest album “Jerusalem is calling” currently being recorded in Byron Bay, available in shops January 2007!
Basek & Sadlik

LOCAL BAND COMP WINNERS TO PLAY ON ROCK STAGE
CONGRATULATIONS: TENTATIVE & GUST OF GRAVITY
In association with The Ballina 2006 Rivafest, Beats On The Beach organisers conducted a huge local band comp last weekend. Held @ The Kingsford Smith Amphitheatre, opposite the BOTB festival site, 12 bands from all across the Northern Rivers battled it out for the two highly coveted ‘local band’ spots set aside for The Rockit mainstage at this years Beats On The Beach festival. BOTB organizers Chris Mitchell and Sam Speaight personally judged the competition.
Congratulations go to winning bands Gust Of Gravity and Tentative who will now join Pete Murray, End of Fashion, Sick Puppies, Karnivool, Van She, Bodyjar, Wolf & Cub, Red Riders, Avalon Drive, Bourbon Street, National Pornographic on the The Rockit Stage @ Beats On The Beach - New Years Day 2007 @ Kingsford Smith Park in Ballina, NSW. Gust Of Gravity and Tentative had this to say about the competition and opportunity to perform at BOTB;
"We always think it’s great to live in an area that despite often going unlooked in the national eye, has such a high level of talent with so many awesome bands coming from here. That’s what was so fantastic about last week’s Rivafest in Ballina, it gave all these local bands a venue to be able to show everyone what they can do. The opportunity to get out there and get this level of exposure in the area is always good and the incentive of the opportunity to play with some of the cream of the Australian industry (especially for us, those Western Australian lads known as Karnivool) is fantastic.
The competition last weekend went really smoothly for all involved and to be given the invitation to play at a major national festival is not only a dream come true for Tentative but an experience we won’t forget any time soon. We’re beyond stoked and can’t wait till New Years’ Day."
Todd Robinson - Tentative
“We were really happy to hear that we would be playing at Beats on the Beach. The band comp seemed like a great way to choose some bands from the region. We feel like the local representatives for the area, and we are proud of that. There is an enormous amount of talent in this area, as was shown at the comp, but it’s hard to find gigs for a lot of the bands. Events like this are great for the community; there should be more in regional areas because it gives local bands and punters a chance to showcase their creativity.
It is a great honor to be invited to play this festival. We finally feel that our ‘different’ style of rock music is becoming more accepted, also making us glad that originality is not being overlooked.”
Jesse Carroll – Gust Of Gravity
In other Beats On The Beach news, 3 artists performing on the Beats On The Beach Fractured (Dance) Stage are to have previously unreleased live sets featured on JJJ’s ‘The Club’ Fri Dec 22nd – stay tuned for details.
