Centred on an island at the mouth of the Richmond River, Ballina is a little over an hour by plane from Sydney and just a short hop from Brisbane. The area is serviced by regional and national airlines, with the Byron Ballina Airport located 5km from the Ballina CBD. There is also several bus companies providing transport into Ballina or you can rent a car from any major town and explore the wonders of the Northern Rivers.
DRIVING
As Brisbane is only 190km from Ballina, it takes about 2 1/2 hours to beach hop down the Pacific Highway. From the south, you can follow the Pacific Highway exploring the coastal route to Ballina. Another option is to tour the hinterland following the New England Highway through to Tenterfield and taking the Bruxner Highway to Ballina.
